OIL CHANGE - SUZUKI

You will need;
1)A new oil filter
2)New oil
3)A new sump plug washer
4)A new filter washer
5)A new filter cover gasket.

First things first. This how I change my oil it isn't rocket science but if you've purchased the CD off ebay and disagree then please post it up.

you follow these directions at you own risk.
I always replace all gaskets and washers regardless of vehicle, For the few quid they are is it really worth not doing it only to find you've got a shagged gasket leaking at the end of the day?

Depending on what oil your using (I'm not going into it here) all the above can be purchased for about £20

Now go for a five minute ride to warm your oil as it flows out easier when warm, remove you fill screw and sump plug and drain your oil into a suitable container. Removing the fill screw prevents air locks when draining your oil and allows it to empty faster.

Now remove your oil filter cover (carefully);

If you've not been careful you will have lost the spring that holds the filter in place, the spring is not held on by anything and can ping off.

Note the groove running around the cover plate, we'll come back to that.

Wipe down all screw threads and mating surfaces to remove road grime and prevent possible contamination of new oil.

Refit sump plug with new washer.

Apply new oil filter gasket inside oil filter housing on bike.

Follow this with the new oil filter (the first photo shows the face which slots over the spline the rubber washer is on) the new filter should loosely hold itself in place.

Place the cover gasket into the groove on the cover (larger of rubber washers (told you we'd come back to it)).

Now comes the tricky bit, you will have to balance the spring between the new filter and the cover plate whilst ensuring that the cover gasket does not slip out of it's groove.

Now with your spare hand reinsert the three holding screws, all the time keeping the spring and gasket in place and then tighten without crimping the cover gasket.

Remember these screws are very soft and it is very easy to over tighten them or strip your threads (no I didn't) so just go steady guys. As there are only three screws you can't do the 12, 6, 9 then 3 tightening technique to reduce stress on the cover, so use your common sense apart from breaking the screws you could crack the cover.

Refill with oil and have a smoke because your done.

How much oil you out in is up to, the engine is stamped up 2300mL (2.3 Litres) so I recommend that.
As soon as your done your sight glass will look like you've overfilled it. IMHO once the oil has circulated a couple of times and stuck to all the internals it should look fine.
